AppSec EU 2009 - wrap up and newsSubmitted by mtesauro on Tue, 05/19/2009 - 13:52 |
AppSec EU 2009 was fantastic and Poland was quite nice. I think everyone who got to attend had a good time and enjoyed the conference. I'd highly recommend the next AppSec Wherever that OWASP puts on. For the latest OWASP conferences look here.
Here's my quick brain dump from the conference:
- 200 OWASP Live CDs were handed out during the conference. If you were registered, you got a Live CD in your conference kit. It was a great way to spread the word and I was happy not to lug 200 CDs back to the US in my suitcase.
- I did some video taped sessions using the OWASP Live CD to demonstrate various parts of the OWASP Testing Guide. Eventually, the goal is to have all the testing guide sections covered. These are being posted to blip.tv. Several are currently up, more will follow:
- Introduction to the Series - 46 seconds
- OWASP IG-001: Spiders, Robots and Crawlers - 24:48 (See also AppSecLive's Tutorial and read the OWASP Guide page )
- OWASP IG-002: Search Engine Discovery / Reconnaissance - 7:05 ( read the OWASP Guide Page )
- Introduction to the Series - 46 seconds
- I made several announcments in the presentation I gave on the OWASP Live CD:
- The next release of the Live CD will be based on Ubuntu - we are migrating off of Slax
- Proper .debs are going to be created for every tool and we're going to establish a repository of packages
- The end goal is a repo that allows you to do something awesome like "apt-get install owasp-live"
- I also got connected to one of the Backtrack guys and will try and work with their project.
Finally, there are a TON of good presentations available - slides currently, videos soon. Look for a post (maybe later today) of the ones that caught my eye.
